Worried about that pesky carry-on policy?
Trust us, we know that carry-on rules can become a littleā¦ frustrating at times.
With constantly changing policies, varying bag sizes, and accompanying fees, packing can quickly turn into a hassle. If you ever find yourself in the dreaded scenario in which your bag is too big or heavy then comes the even more dreaded fees to follow.
Fortunately, most airlines have consistent guidelines on what you can bring onboard.
If you need to lighten your backpack load and keep costs down, get ready to declutter, as we all want to sidestep those additional fees.
So what essentials can you snag out of your bag quickly at the gate? Well, I’m so glad you asked!
Here are a few things I regularly carry on for any given flight!
1.) Snacks! Whether it be to go food you grabbed at your gate or a homemade lunch, you can carry food onto your plane outside of your carry-on bag.
2.) A book! You can bring any reading material in your hand that you would like.
3.) A camera! You can bring your camera on the plane either on a strap around your neck or in your hands- some websites claim that you can carry on a camera bag, but I have never personally tested this theory, so use your discretion.
4.) Your computer! My computer is a bit hefty and not light, so I like to carry it on if I need my bag to fit into the measurement bin.
5.) Medical equipment. I had to catch a flight with a broken foot not too long ago and was curious how this whole process worked, but you can bring any kind of medical equipment on board, whether it be crutches, an insulin cooler, or other medical necessities. I registered ahead of time to have special assistance and all of the airline workers were helpful and accommodating to my needs!
A few more things you can typically carry on for free are:
-Umbrellas
-Hats
-Pillows
-A small blanket
-Diaper bags
-A water bottle
Always verify with your chosen airline and ensure that you can find a list of allowed carry-on items. If you’re concerned about carrying on specific items you can always call in advance to ensure you won’t be wracking up any additional fees for your travel essentials!
